MUSIC REVIEW: BURIAL'S "UNTRUE"
LABEL: Hyperdub
RELEASE DATE: November, 2007
RATING: 9.2
An anonymous artist from London said in an interview "only five people know I make tunes." Burial can be classified as jungle/dub down-tempo reverberation and is the latest and greatest sound that will ever meet your ears. The self titled album "Burial", released in 2006 made The Wire Magazine's album of the year and has been critically acclaimed. Burial's sophomore album "Untrue", released in late 2007 which made 'metacritic.com's' album of the year, takes this new ground-breaking sound higher then DJ's have ever heard. With a very unique sound, Burial has a mysterious way of making the listener wonder why in the hell they actually like its music. With random sampled sounds like that of a rain storm or an empty bullet cartridge falling to the pavement with a 'CLING', along with heart-pounding drum-beats, listeners can only comprehend the amazing musical concept the musician has in store for fans. Tracks like "Archangel" from the album "Untrue", start with a heavy-beat followed by a mystical voice that doesn't even sound human-like, but is nevertheless captivating. "Near Dark" has somewhat the same sounding beat as "Archangel", but with variations of sampled sounds layered within it. Even if you have been sheltered all your life with Dave Matthews Band and some occasional Radiohead, please go to 'youtube.com' after reading this review and listen to a sample of this new sound that has music critics raving about its experimental sound. My personal favorite on the album "Untrue" is the track entitled "Endorphin".... T. Keck
